Decree Translation

Date: 25/10/2025

Local sources in Ghazni Province report that a mass marriage ceremony for 20 young couples was held with strict gender segregation, with brides and grooms placed in separate halls. The ceremony took place on Monday, January 15, with financial support from a local businessman.

Seyed Gul Ahmad Motamedi, the organizer and sponsor of the event, stated that the purpose of the ceremony was to assist couples who had been unable to marry due to financial hardship and had remained engaged for several years.

Notes on Decree

The organization of a mass marriage ceremony under enforced gender segregation reflects the normalization of segregation as a social requirement rather than a voluntary cultural choice. Such practices reinforce gender hierarchy and limit women’s autonomy even within personal and familial life events.
