Local sources in Kabul report that Taliban fighters arrested three men on Sunday, August 30, and transferred them to Pul-e-Charkhi Prison. The individuals were detained from their homes.
According to the sources, the detainees are Seyed Islam Deh Namaki, Mirwais, and Mohammad Nasim. Seyed Islam Deh Namaki was reportedly arrested for criticizing the Taliban leader’s performance and publishing critical content on the Javidan and Khavaran websites. The reasons for the arrest of the other two individuals remain unclear, though sources indicate they may also be linked to the publication of the same materials. Families later confirmed that all three men had been transferred to Pul-e-Charkhi Prison.
The arrests follow a broader pattern of Taliban detentions targeting critics and individuals expressing dissenting views.
The arrest of three individuals for publishing critical content reflects the Taliban’s continued criminalization of dissent and suppression of online expression. By detaining individuals for criticism of leadership and transferring them to a high-security prison without transparent charges, the authorities use incarceration as a deterrent against public scrutiny. This practice reinforces a climate of fear and eliminates remaining spaces for political critique.
