Decree Translation

Date: 26/07/1404
The Afghanistan Journalists Center reports that the broadcasts of the private radio and television network Shamshad in Kabul have been suspended by order of the Taliban intelligence agency.
The Center described this action as a direct and explicit interference in the affairs of an independent media outlet and condemned it.
A well‑informed source in Kabul told the Afghanistan Journalists Center that Shamshad TV was accused of failing to properly cover the recent clashes between the Taliban and Pakistani forces, as well as Pakistan’s attacks on Afghanistan. According to the source, the network is also accused of not defending the Taliban government’s position and its actions against Pakistan.
So far, Shamshad TV officials have not commented on the matter.
Shamshad is a private media organization that was established in 2005 (1384 in the solar calendar) in Kabul through the investment of Fazl Karim Fazl.
The Afghanistan Journalists Center has called on the Taliban to reconsider their decision and to allow Shamshad Radio and Television to resume operations as soon as possible.
Since the Taliban’s return to power, half of the country’s media outlets have shut down, and some have gone into exile.
At present, the few remaining private media organizations operating in Afghanistan face severe censorship and restrictions imposed by the Taliban.

Notes on Decree

This entry documents the suspension of broadcasts of Shamshad Radio and Television in Kabul by Taliban intelligence authorities. The action, reportedly linked to the outlet’s failure to align with official narratives, reflects the enforcement of censorship through administrative and security measures. It indicates the use of coercive restrictions on media operations to control information and suppress independent reporting within an increasingly constrained media environment.
