The Taliban has announced the start of university classes in cold regions for boys only!
On December 12, 2022, the Ministry of Higher Education of the Taliban government stated that university classes in public institutions in the cold regions of Afghanistan, including Kabul, will begin within the next five days. In a statement issued on Wednesday, March 1 (10th of Hoot), the Ministry announced: "According to the decision of the Leadership Council of the Ministry of Higher Education, the spring semester for male students in public educational institutions in cold regions will officially begin on the 15th of this month."
It was also announced that the academic year 1402 will begin in about a month. In December 2022, the Ministry of Higher Education of the Taliban government suspended the education of girls in all public and private universities in Afghanistan until further notice. Additionally, in January, the Ministry instructed private higher education institutions not to allow girls to participate in the university entrance exam until "further orders." However, some female students have expressed that, based on the Taliban's commitment, they were expecting universities to open their doors soon. (Voice of America / VOA)
This order of Taliban is a clear example of human rights violations and gender-based discrimination in Afghanistan. On one hand, it deprives women of their right to education, while on the other, it leaves thousands of young girls in Afghanistan in a state of uncertainty and despair. This has led to an increase in mental health issues, suicides, forced marriages, and rising violence against girls.
