Local sources in Khost report that the Taliban have banned the broadcast of educational programs through private media outlets in the province. On Saturday, 3rd of September, sources told 8am newspaper that in a joint meeting with local media representatives and officials from the Taliban's Ministry of Information and Culture and Education, the Taliban ordered local media to stop airing educational programs for subjects beyond grade six.
The sources added that the local Taliban officials warned the media outlets that they must comply with this directive as it was issued by the Ministry of Education. They were told that any violation would result in punishment.
The Taliban's ban on broadcasting educational content beyond grade six through private media in Khost represents another step in institutionalizing educational apartheid against girls and curbing public access to knowledge. By targeting private media—one of the few remaining avenues for informal education—the directive not only deepens the education ban for girls but also stifles community-based learning initiatives that operate outside traditional classrooms. It is worth mentioning that about five months ago, the Khost police chief had instructed the authorities in the province to stop all phone contact with women.
