The Taliban shut down a women's karate club in Farah.

Decree Translation

Date: 11/11/1401 Local sources in Farah province report that the Taliban have closed the only women’s karate training club in the region. According to information confirmed by 8am Daily on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, the closure was carried out under an official order from the Taliban’s Sports Authority. Earlier in the week, the club’s manager was informed of the decision and instructed to halt all activities. The club has now officially shut its doors, leaving no sports training opportunities available for women in the province.

Notes on Decree

The forced closure of the only women's karate club in Farah represents yet another step in the Taliban’s systematic erasure of women from public and physical spaces, including education, employment, and now sports and physical health. Karate—like other forms of sport—provided not only physical training but also a rare space for confidence-building, community, and empowerment for women and girls.
