On Friday, May 30, 2024 (10th of Jowza), a relative of Yama Maqsoodi—a well-known cultural figure—told Afghanistan International that Maqsoodi was detained by Taliban intelligence ten days after returning to Afghanistan. He was reportedly arrested in Kabul’s fourth district and transferred to an undisclosed location.

The family member, who requested anonymity, stated that despite repeated attempts to contact Taliban authorities for information on Maqsoodi’s whereabouts, they have received no response.

Yama Maqsoodi, aged 73, is a prominent cultural figure in Afghanistan who has been living in Germany for the past 40 years. This figure is the recipient of the "Federal Republic of Germany's Order of Merit" and hails from Panjshir province. According to family members, Mr. Maqsoodi holds German citizenship. In recent years, he has been active in advocacy and collaboration with refugees in Germany.
