Date: 28/04/1404 Arrest and Abuse of University Students During Graduation Ceremony in Faryab
Local sources in Faryab Province told Amu that Taliban officers from the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (PVPV) intervened in a graduation ceremony at Faryab University and arrested a number of students.
According to sources, students from the Faculty of Economics were insulted, humiliated, and beaten by Taliban officials after closing a checkpoint during the graduation event. Some students were reportedly detained. Sources stated that Taliban officers entered the ceremony without presenting any official order and attempted to stop the event through force.
Additional sources from Faryab University reported that the Taliban prohibited professors from attending the graduation ceremony. University officials were reportedly warned that if photographs of professors appeared on social media, those individuals would be dismissed from their positions.
As of the time of reporting, the Taliban had not issued any public comment regarding the incident.
The arrest and physical abuse of university students during a graduation ceremony in Faryab Province reflects the expansion of Taliban moral policing into academic and civic spaces. The violent disruption of a university event, carried out without legal justification, and the detention and mistreatment of students demonstrate the use of coercion and intimidation to suppress public gathering and expression. The exclusion of professors and threats of dismissal for social media visibility further indicate systematic efforts to control academic life and silence educators. These actions undermine educational freedom, personal security, and dignity, and contribute to an environment in which universities are treated as sites of surveillance and repression rather than learning.
