Taliban Prevented Breshna Employees from Entering Offices Due to Lack of Caps and Short Beards
8AM, Kabul: Sources in Kabul report that the Taliban’s Vice and Virtue officers today prevented several employees of the Breshna Company from entering their offices because they were not wearing caps.
Sources told the 8AM Daily on Thursday, 20 Sunbula, that the Taliban officers also denied entry to other employees due to their short beards.
A reliable source stated that the Taliban officers additionally collected and took away 250 employee ID cards.
Previously, the Taliban had required a number of government employees to sign written commitments to wear the traditional Qandahari cap and grow their beards.
Human rights organizations, including the UN Special Rapporteur, have previously expressed concern over the Taliban’s widespread suppression and violations of human rights.
This entry documents the enforcement of appearance regulations by Taliban authorities against employees of the Breshna Company in Kabul. According to sources, Vice and Virtue officers prevented employees from entering their workplace due to non-compliance with requirements to wear caps and maintain prescribed beard lengths, and confiscated approximately 250 employee identification cards. The incident reflects the enforcement of morality-based dress and grooming codes within public sector employment, including the imposition of behavioral conditions and restrictions on access to work. It further illustrates the use of administrative and coercive measures to ensure compliance with prescribed norms.
