Residents of Kabul told Afghanistan International on Thursday, 8 Aqrab, by sending a video, that officers from the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue were using a loudspeaker in a market in Police District 1 of Kabul to explain and promote the contents of the “Law on the Promotion of Virtue.”
They stated that through the loudspeaker, women were instructed to observe the hijab.
The Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice monitors the social and cultural behavior of citizens based on the Taliban’s interpretation of Islamic Sharia.
This entry documents the use of public loudspeaker announcements by Taliban Vice and Virtue officers in Kabul to enforce compliance with the “Law on the Promotion of Virtue,” including instructions directed at women to observe hijab. The measure reflects the use of public messaging as a mechanism of morality-based enforcement, indicating the normalization of behavioral regulation in everyday public spaces.
