Decree

The directive to halt the hiring of female teachers in girls' schools in Ghazni province.

Decree Translation

Sources report that the Taliban Ministry of Education has postponed the hiring of female teachers in girls' schools in Ghazni province, continuing its restrictions on girls’ education. Local sources informed the 8 Sobh newspaper on Friday, July 13, that provincial education authorities halted the recruitment process following orders from the Ministry. There are concerns that this directive may soon be implemented in other provinces as well.

A female volunteer who applied for a teaching position in Nawor district confirmed to 8 Sobh that while male candidates were accepted during competitive exams held on Thursday, July 12, female candidates were told to wait until further notice. According to local sources, the recruitment exams for teaching positions in girls’ schools have been indefinitely suspended. It remains unclear whether this directive applies only to Ghazni or more broadly across the country. So far, the Taliban Ministry of Education has not issued any official comment on this new directive.

Notes on Decree

The suspension of female teacher recruitment in girls' schools in Ghazni province signals a further erosion of educational and employment rights for Afghan women under Taliban rule. By halting the hiring process exclusively for women—while continuing to accept male candidates—the directive undermines both gender equality and access to education for girls, particularly in rural areas where female teachers are often essential to school operations. The lack of transparency and formal communication from the Ministry of Education further reflects the arbitrary nature of these restrictions, which appear ideologically driven rather than legally or administratively justified.
