Decree

Abolition of the Office of the Deputy Attorney General in the Department of Combating Violence Against Women.

Decree Translation

The Taliban Attorney General's Office has reviewed its organizational structure for the year 1401 and submitted it to the Office of the Prime Minister. According to order number (2771) dated 15/12/1443 from the Prime Minister of the Taliban, and letter number (5498) dated 20/12/1443 from the Department of Organizational Affairs and Civil Service Reform, the 1401 organizational structure of the Attorney General's Office, with a total of 6,000 positions, has been approved. In this structure, the Deputy Attorney General's office for combating violence against women, child abuse, and 14 other departments under this office, which were mostly staffed by female prosecutors, have been removed from the Attorney General's office's organizational structure.

Notes on Decree

Following the 2022 restructuring of the Attorney General’s Office, the dissolution of the Office of the Deputy Attorney General for Combating Violence Against Women and Child Rights Violations — along with its 14 departments — dealt a serious blow to justice and protection in Afghanistan. This move not only stripped many female prosecutors of their right to work but also denied countless women survivors of violence access to justice. It has also contributed to a rise in child rights violations. Prior to its closure, the office had made substantial progress in expanding access to justice for women nationwide, with women comprising 90% of the prosecutors dedicated to this vital work.
