Local sources in Ghor Province report that the Taliban have transferred dozens of female teachers to remote schools in the Lal and Sarjangal districts. Two local sources told Rukhshana Media that female teachers who had previously worked in schools near their homes were recently reassigned by the Taliban’s education department to distant and hard-to-reach locations.
The exact number of affected teachers was not specified. Sources stated that, given their low salaries, many teachers cannot afford daily travel to remote areas. One source said the transfers appear intended to discourage women from continuing their employment. Another source added that several teachers have decided to resign, as they are unable to travel independently and are forced to rely on motorcycles for daily commutes, which is both unsafe and unaffordable. Local Taliban officials have not commented on the reported transfers.
The forced transfer of female teachers to remote schools functions as a coercive employment tactic designed to pressure women out of the education sector. By imposing assignments that are logistically unsafe, economically unviable, and incompatible with restrictions on women’s mobility, the Taliban convert administrative reassignment into constructive dismissal. This practice undermines girls’ education while using geography and poverty as tools of gender-based exclusion.
