Residents of the Qala-e-Najara and 315 Khairkhana areas of Kabul City reported that Taliban forces conducted house-to-house searches on the evening of Monday, 24 March 2025, beginning at approximately 8:00 p.m.
According to local sources, Taliban personnel entered residential homes and inspected residents’ mobile phones. In some cases, personal belongings were also searched. No warrants, explanations, or official notices were reported to have been provided to residents during the searches.
Residents expressed concern regarding the searches, noting that similar operations in the past have reportedly resulted in arrests. As of the time of reporting, the Taliban had not issued any public comment regarding the operation.
The searches took place amid reports of increased armed attacks against Taliban forces in several cities, including Kabul.
The house-to-house searches conducted by Taliban forces in residential areas of Kabul represent an intrusive security practice that undermines privacy, personal security, and freedom from arbitrary interference. Nighttime raids involving the inspection of mobile phones and personal belongings, carried out without transparency, warrants, or public justification, function as coercive surveillance and intimidation of civilian populations. In the absence of any acknowledged legal basis or safeguards, such searches contribute to a climate of fear and collective punishment, particularly in urban areas experiencing heightened security tensions. These practices erode protections related to family life, personal autonomy, and liberty, and are indicative of broader patterns of arbitrary enforcement and securitized governance.
