Date 21st of Ramadan, 1445 AH
"On Sunday, based on the verdict of the Primary Court of the city and the Primary Court of the Dawlatabad district in Faryab province, a discretionary punishment was applied in a public gathering to three individuals, including a woman, who were accused of adultery and fleeing from their homes. The decisions of the Primary Courts of the city and Dawlatabad district were executed after being confirmed by the Appeal Court of Faryab province and the esteemed Supreme Court.
It is worth noting that among the mentioned defendants, one individual, who was accused of adultery and facilitating the escape of a woman, was sentenced to two years and six months of imprisonment and (39) lashes. The other two individuals, a man and a woman, who were accused of adultery and fleeing from their homes, were each sentenced to one year of imprisonment and (30) lashes."
On 21 Ramadan 1445 AH, three individuals—including a woman—were publicly flogged in Faryab province following convictions for adultery and fleeing from home. Sentences included imprisonment and up to 39 lashes, upheld by both the provincial appeal court and the Taliban Supreme Court.
This case highlights the Taliban's continued use of public corporal punishment alongside prison sentences, raising concerns about double punishment and the denial of fair trial standards. The charges of adultery and fleeing from home, especially when imposed on women, reflect the regime's criminalization of personal autonomy and reinforce gender-based legal discrimination. The public nature of these sentences further underscores a strategy of intimidation and control, eroding both privacy rights and the integrity of judicial processes
