Date: 26/03/1401 Credible sources in Herat province told the Sadai Afghanistan News Agency on Thursday, June 15, that the Taliban are refusing to address women’s complaints against their husbands. According to these sources, the Taliban issued a warning to women at a time when several had filed domestic violence complaints in Herat’s courts—none of which were accepted.
The reported refusal by Taliban authorities in Herat to accept domestic violence complaints from women constitutes a grave violation of fundamental legal rights. By effectively denying women access to justice, the Taliban are not only breaching the right to a fair trial but also entrenching gender-based violence and inequality. This practice silences survivors, reinforces impunity for abusers, and strips women of essential legal protection, violating Afghanistan’s obligations under international human rights law and exacerbating the risk of harm within the private sphere.
