Decree Translation

Date: 24/12/1445 On Monday, July 1 2024,, according to the decision of the Urban Court of Panjshir province, two individuals accused of adultery were publicly subjected to a discretionary punishment of 39 lashes each.

Notes on Decree

The public flogging of two individuals for adultery in Panjshir province, by order of the Urban Court of Panjshir, reflects the Taliban's continued use of corporal punishment outside internationally accepted legal norms. Such practices undermine the principles of fair trial and due process, and their public nature serves to intimidate rather than deliver justice. This event illustrates ongoing violations of personal autonomy and gender equality under the Taliban's interpretation of Sharia law
