Date:12/04/1403 _ 25/12/1445 The Taliban's Supreme Court announced on Tuesday, July 1 2024, that they had lashed four individuals for engaging in same-sex relationships in Parwan province, north of Kabul. According to a newsletter released by the Taliban's Supreme Court, these individuals were accused of "sodomy."
The Taliban stated that "three suspects each received one year of imprisonment and 39 lashes of corporal punishment, and another suspect received two years of imprisonment and 39 lashes of corporal punishment," as sentenced by the Primary Court of Sayed Khel District, Parwan province.
According to the Taliban's interpretation of Islamic laws, homosexuality is severely condemned, and various punishments, including death, can be imposed.
The Taliban's flogging and imprisonment of individuals for consensual same-sex relationships highlight severe violations of personal autonomy, non-discrimination, and the right to privacy. The punishments were administered under a legal framework lacking transparency and due process, constituting arbitrary and degrading treatment. These actions reflect a broader pattern of persecution against LGBTQ+ individuals under the Taliban regime.
