Taliban authorities in Balkh publicly carried out a flogging sentence against a woman convicted of engaging in an illicit relationship.

According to the decision of the Urban Primary Court of Balkh Province, a woman convicted of having an illicit relationship was subjected to discretionary punishment today, Thursday, 28/1/1447 AH, in a public setting.
The Primary Court had sentenced the convicted woman to 39 lashes as discretionary punishment, and this ruling was implemented after approval by the High Council of the Supreme Court.
The discretionary punishment was carried out in the presence of Maulavi Mufti Mohammad Wali (Haqqani), Head of the Urban Primary Court; Sheikh Maulavi Ubaidullah (Haqqani), Head of the Department of Commanding the Right, Forbidding the Wrong, and Complaint Hearing; the heads of the Urban Court, judicial members, administrative and service personnel, security officers of the Courts’ Security Unit, as well as a large number of scholars, local representatives, members of the public, and court visitors in the courtyard of the Urban Primary Court of Balkh Province.
