Decree

The public sentencing of four individuals, including one woman, to corporal punishment for adultery and sodomy, in Faryab province.

Decree Translation

Date: 20/01/1445 According to the decision of the Provincial Court of Faryab and the confirmation decree of the Chief Justice in the premises of the General Presidency of the Court, under the supervision of Mr. Muftee Abdul Wahab Zahid, the Chief Justice of the Provincial Court, where officials from governmental departments, military personnel of Faryab Province, esteemed scholars, and a large number of devout people of this province were present, four individuals, three men and one woman, were convicted of engaging in unlawful relationships and sodomy and were subjected to the prescribed punitive measures.

Notes on Decree

This public sentencing in Faryab province illustrates the Taliban's continued use of corporal punishment for private, consensual behavior—such as adultery and sodomy—raising serious concerns about arbitrary and degrading treatment. The involvement of religious and military officials, along with a public audience, further underscores the punitive spectacle. These actions undermine the right to a fair trial, infringe on personal privacy, and disproportionately affect women and marginalized groups, reinforcing a broader pattern of gender-based discrimination and judicial abuse under Taliban rule.
