Local sources in Khost province report that a woman and two men were publicly flogged by the Taliban in the Alishar district. According to eyewitnesses cited by Hasht-e Subh, the punishment was carried out on Thursday morning after the individuals were accused of fleeing home and kidnapping a woman. Each received 35 lashes and prison sentences ranging from one and a half to three years.
The incident follows another public punishment reported a day earlier in Ghazni province, where two individuals were flogged for robbery in Deh-e Yak district.
Despite repeated calls from international human rights organizations to end the use of public corporal punishment and extrajudicial “field courts,” the Taliban continues to carry out such practices in defiance of international norms.
This public flogging of a woman and two men in Khost province exemplifies the Taliban's continued reliance on extrajudicial punishments through field courts, in defiance of international legal norms. Administered without guarantees of due process, these actions violate rights to a fair trial, bodily integrity, and personal liberty, while reinforcing a climate of gender-based repression and impunity
