On the date of 3/23/1445 AH, based on the verdict of the district court of Shibar district, Bamyan province, and the confirmation order from the Chief Justice of the General Criminal Court, the Sharia court executed the punishment of corporal chastisement on more than two individuals, including one woman, convicted of the crime of adultery. In the convened session aimed at executing the corporal punishment verdict, attended by judicial officials and representatives from other governmental bodies, a significant number of local residents were also present.
This public corporal punishment in Bamyan province exemplifies the Taliban's continued use of punitive measures that contravene international human rights standards. Administering physical punishment for adultery—especially in the presence of judicial and governmental officials—reflects a justice system rooted in coercion rather than due process. The lack of transparency and legal safeguards raises serious concerns about the right to a fair trial, while the use of flogging amounts to cruel and degrading treatment. Moreover, the targeting of a woman in this case underscores persistent gender inequality and the erosion of personal autonomy under Taliban rule.
