Taliban Intelligence Arrests the Brother of a Woman Protester in Takhar.

8AM, Takhar: Local sources in Takhar report that the Taliban’s intelligence directorate in this province has arrested the brother of Parisa Mubarez, a woman protester and civil society activist.
On Sunday, 13 Aqrab, Parisa Mubarez head of the Women Protest Movement in Takhar confirmed to the 8AM Daily that the Taliban had detained her brother on 25 Asad of this year in the city of Taloqan, the provincial capital, due to her activism.
The protester identifies her brother as Haseebullah Sharifi, stating that he is 23 years old.
According to Mubarez, her brother is currently being held by Taliban intelligence, and the family has received no information about his fate for the past 50 days.
She added that the Taliban have demanded documents for four shops as well as guarantees from 50 individuals in exchange for his release.
It is worth noting that Parisa Mubarez herself had previously been detained for protesting against the Taliban’s restrictions on women.
Taliban officials in Takhar have so far made no comments regarding the matter.
Since regaining control of Afghanistan, the Taliban have detained and tortured their opponents through various methods.

Notes on Decree

This case documents the use of family-member detention by Taliban intelligence authorities as a coercive measure in response to women’s protest activity. The arrest and prolonged incommunicado detention of a protester’s brother, without disclosed charges or legal process, illustrates collective punishment and reprisal tactics aimed at suppressing dissent. The reported demands for property documents and third-party guarantees in exchange for release further indicate the instrumentalization of detention for leverage rather than lawful investigation.
