Date: 14/03/1403

Officials of the Taliban's Education Directorate in Badakhshan have announced that in collaboration with a local institution for elementary school girls, they have distributed burqas/hijabs in four schools in the city of Fayzabad, the center of this province.

In a statement from the Taliban's Education Directorate in Badakhshan, it is stated that they distributed burqas yesterday (Monday, 13 Jowza/2-June-2024) for 200 girls in "Lisah-e Aali Makfī Badakhshi", "Lisah-e Neswān Number 2", "Lisah-e Neswān Bāgh-e Shāh", and "Lisah-e Neswān al-Jihad" in Fayzabad as the first step.

The Taliban's Education Directorate stated that in addition to burqas/Hijab, school uniforms have also been distributed to these students.

The Directorate mentioned that for every 50 female students in each school, burqas/Hijabs and uniforms have been distributed.

According to the statement from the Taliban's Education Directorate, the burqas/Hijabs and uniforms for these students have been procured by an institution known as the "Institute for Development and Economic Empowerment of Women".

Notes on Decree

While framed as humanitarian support, the targeted distribution of burqas to girls in public schools functions as a soft enforcement mechanism. In the broader context of Taliban dress code policies and verbal/written orders mandating hijab, this action enforces conformity without legal compulsion but with strong social and institutional pressure.
