Date: 29/04/1404 The Afghan Journalists Center announced that local Taliban officials in Sar-e-Pul Province have banned the broadcast of live images in local media. With this decision, the ban on the broadcast of live images is now in effect in 20 provinces of Afghanistan.The decision was communicated to reporters on Monday, July 14, at a coordination meeting of spokespersons for the Taliban's local administration in Sar-e-Pul, according to a statement issued by the Afghanistan Journalists Center. representative of the local department for the promotion of virtue stressed at the meeting that "the broadcasting of live images is illegal" and that the media must comply with this order.
After the order was formally announced, the majority of local officials refrained from video conferencing with the media.
Meanwhile, after the implementation of the law on the promotion of virtue, the national television in Sar-e-Pul "has changed its nature and has been turned into a radio."
Previously, the distribution of live images in Kandahar, Takhar, Badghis, Helmand, Nangarhar, Nuristan, Farah, Nimroz, Badakhshan, Baghlan, Jowzjan, Zabul, Parwan, Kunduz, Bamyan, Daikundi, Faryab, Panjshir and Laghman Provinces was officially banned.
The Afghanistan Journalists Center called on the Taliban to revoke this "highly regressive order" to provide the necessary space for the media to operate freely and without fear.
The expansion of the ban on live image broadcasting to Sar-e-Pul reflects the Taliban’s systematic dismantling of visual journalism across Afghanistan. by eliminating live images and forcing television outlets to function as radio stations, the authorities severely restrict documentation, accountability, and public visibility. The nationwide spread of this policy demonstrates a coordinated effort to suppress transparency and control public narratives.
