Decree

Taliban in Kandahar have banned the use of drones for filming.

Decree Translation

Date: 05/06/1403 Local sources in Kandahar report that the Taliban have banned the use of drones for filming in the province. On Monday, September 5th, sources said that this order was issued by the Taliban's Kandahar Police Command through an official statement. According to these sources, the Taliban declared that filming with drones in the city center and districts of Kandahar is considered a "crime" and those using them are "criminals." Previously, the group had already banned taking pictures of living beings.

Notes on Decree

The ban reflects a broader effort to suppress freedom of expression and eliminate tools that enable independent documentation. By criminalizing drone use, the Taliban aims to prevent media coverage, restrict civic oversight, and tighten control over public narratives. This policy further isolates communities and reinforces authoritarian rule through censorship and fear
