Taliban order to collect all books that contradict Hanafi jurisprudence from private universities.

Decree Translation

Date: 30/05/1445 Ministry of Higher Education
Directorate of Invitation and Guidance

You are hereby instructed to clear all libraries in private educational institutions across Afghanistan. All books that contradict the Hanafi jurisprudence, political books, or books that cause ideological issues should be removed from the libraries. In place of these, you should add books on the biography of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). However, before replacing the books, kindly share the list of books with us in advance.

Please ensure the proper execution of this task and confirm your compliance.

Respectfully,
Sheikh Shakerullah Wahdat
Director of Invitation and Guidance

Notes on Decree

Nadam Mohammad Nadim, the Minister of Higher Education under the Taliban, claimed in a speech last week at Kunar University that "there are no sects in Afghanistan, all Afghans follow the faith of Imam Abu Hanifa."

This statement comes despite the fact that the Shia Jaafari and Ismaili sects make up a significant portion of the country's population, and religious minorities, including Sikhs and Hindus, also live in Afghanistan.
