Date: 28/04/1404 Taliban Arrest Around 100 Young Women in Kabul; Some Released After 24 Hours
Sources in Kabul report that the Taliban’s Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice has arrested around one hundred young women from the Shahr-e-Naw area of Kabul, releasing some of them on bail after detaining them for 24 hours.
Rukhshana Media: Three sources in Kabul confirmed to Rukhshana Media that the women were arrested on the evening of Wednesday of last week (25 Saratan).
One source, speaking anonymously, said that the women were detained both from public areas in the city and from inside hospitals, and were transferred to the detention facilities of the Taliban’s Vice and Virtue department in Kabul.
According to this source, the Taliban detained these young women on the grounds of “not observing Islamic hijab.”
The source stressed that most of the arrested women were, in fact, fully observing Islamic hijab, but the Taliban detained them nonetheless.
Another source said that some of the women were released after spending one night in detention, but only after providing a guarantor.
Videos circulating on social media show several women being surrounded and encircled by Taliban forces.
In one video, a woman raises her voice and tells the Taliban:
“You deprived us of life, education, and going to school. What more do you want? Fear God!”
Meanwhile, Saif-ul-Islam Khyber, spokesperson for the Taliban’s Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, has denied any arrests of women in Kabul.
The arrest of these young women has sparked reactions from human rights activists and women protestors, who are calling for their immediate release from Taliban custody.
It remains unclear whether all the detained women have been released. Rukhshana Media sources confirmed that some have been freed, but the exact number has not been disclosed.

Notes on Decree

This entry documents reports that Taliban authorities detained a large number of young women in Kabul during an enforcement operation related to observance of Islamic hijab. Sources indicate that women were arrested from public spaces and hospitals in the Shahr-e-Naw area and transferred to detention facilities operated by the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (PVPV). Some detainees were reportedly released after approximately 24 hours upon providing a guarantor. The incident reflects the use of morality policing and short-term detention as mechanisms to enforce dress and behavioral regulations affecting women in public spaces.
