Taliban Arrest a Civil and Educational Activist in Nangarhar
Sources in Nangarhar Province confirmed today (Saturday, 2 Aqrab) that Taliban intelligence forces have arrested a man named Javid Hazrati, a civil society activist working in the field of girls’ education.
Javid Hazrati was detained nearly a month ago by Taliban intelligence forces from his home in Jalalabad city and has remained in custody since then.
According to the source, the reason for his arrest was a Facebook post in which he praised former Afghan President Dr. Najibullah. Following this post, Taliban forces moved to arrest him.
This action has raised concerns among civil society and human rights activists in Afghanistan, as the detention of educational and civic activists especially those working on girls’ education has consistently drawn significant criticism from the international community.
So far, no official response from the Taliban regarding this arrest has been reported.
This entry documents the arrest and continued detention of a civil society activist in Nangarhar Province by Taliban intelligence forces, reportedly in connection with a social media post. The detention reflects the use of security mechanisms to restrict expression and target individuals engaged in civic and educational activities, indicating the suppression of dissent within a system characterized by limited due process safeguards.
