Aadila’s Story: Banned from Parks, Isolated at Home

Taliban Decree: Women Banned from Parks and Sports Facilities

Province: Kabul

My name is Aadila, and I am a teacher who has been forced into a state of confinement at home. For some time now, I have been depressed. As you know, life in Afghanistan has become increasingly difficult for everyone. There was a time when things were better. I would attend school, and in the afternoons, I would often take my children to the park, where we would spend about an hour enjoying ourselves. Makaroryan Park used to be a very suitable place for such activities.

However, the situation has drastically changed. Women are no longer allowed to visit parks. The Taliban have locked the gates to Makaroryan Park. As a result, men, women, and children are confined to their homes, leading to constant arguments, violence, and frustration from morning until night. This is mainly due to widespread unemployment, which has left everyone exhausted and demoralized.

With most men out of work, both men and women, as well as children, have become increasingly irritable. Reports indicate that violence against women has escalated, and there has been a significant rise in cases of murder and suicide.
