Province: Kabul
I was previously a professor at a private university. Following the events of 2021 and the ban on female students attending universities, I became unemployed, as I was not permitted to teach male students. After some time, I began working at one of Afghanistan’s prominent media outlets last year. However, I must emphasize that if I had another source of income to support myself, I would not have chosen to engage in this work.
The conditions for women in the media industry are highly restrictive. The Taliban issues new decrees and directives almost daily. We are prohibited from presenting uncensored news, are not allowed to enter the workplace without wearing a hijab and a mask, and out of fear, no one participates in news programs or engages in political discussions. Even when I read a modified news report, I experience emotional pressure for several days.
The Taliban closely monitors the behavior, dress, and even personal relationships of media employees, particularly women. At present, the media environment is exceedingly oppressive.
